JConcepts has added several new features to their popular "The Machine" 1968 Firebird body to create this performance-oriented Firebird 2 (FB2) body shell. This body shell exudes confidence with its low-profile stature, super low Firebird V-nose, built-in front splitter, and crowned hood line.
The Firebird has a long silhouette, creating an even displacement of downforce over the front and rear end, helping the chassis gain grip where needed. The large, lay-down front windshield cuts through the wind like a fighter jet, allowing the car to gain speed quickly.
The front-end of the body is important to maximize the MPH and elapsed time during any pass. The heavy front-end rake allows the vehicle to hold tight on the "big end" of the racetrack, with just enough clearance to fit over most front suspension components. On the Firebird 2, JConcepts has added more clearance in the hood area to allow a lower-profile stance, additional tire clearance, and a more uniform panel for less air disturbance. A slight hood-scoop runs the centerline of the body over the crowned hood.
The Pro-Mod front-end look is completed by adding included headlight, grille, and duct decals. Trim to the lowest cutline to allow the built-in splitter to cut through the air with precision. Small wheel wells reduce large gaps around the tires, and an ultra-low cutline on the rocker panel area allows the body to hug the ground.
A wider rear-end provides more clearance for an assortment of tire combinations or wider track width vehicles. The final feature, the long roofline, extended to the trunk section, blends into a built-in gurney type wing for downforce without adding additional wings or aerodynamics. The side-dam plates have been realigned in a more parallel fashion for less overall drag and to provide a better base for after-market (not included) rear wing sets.
Perhaps one of the greatest features of the FB2 is the use of light-weight materials. Racers have asked for a lighter overall weight and JConcepts delivers with material usually reserved for only the highest performance on-road vehicles. The FB2, comes standard as lightweight, and shaves off approximately 3% over the previous generation. The JConcepts body includes overspray film on top of the body, window mask for quick paint and prep, and a detailed Pontiac Firebird / JConcepts decal sheet.
